Payin’ Homage: Remixes Vol. 2
Two of my biggest influences have got to be the Fugees and D’Angelo - artists with undeniable musicality and vibe but no fear of rawness. D’Angelo’s Voodoo was for me a perfect mix of slick harmonies, tight ensemble playing and a kind of gritty tribal-ness. Similarly, a number of the Fugees group and solo releases seemed to balance pain, emotion and general barminess in exact measures. I’ve tried to capture some of those things in these remixes…
Fugees feat. Tribe Called Quest & Busta Rhymes - Rumble in the Jungle (Charo Remix)
D’Angelo feat. Method Man & Redman - Left & Right (Charo Remix No. 2)
Be Nice - Remixes Vol. 1
Everyone knows… serious… the best way to make me cry is to cuss my remixes
So for some reason, my first remix post is gonna be two of this decades biggest R&B tunes… let me know what you’re thinking… but be nice, yeah??
I think Beyonce is one of our generations most important singers. She’s written and recorded some of the defining songs of the past two decades. Whether she is or not (I’ve had a lot of debates over it!) I love her voice and I think this beat gives those high vocals the space they need:
Beyonce - Crazy In Love (Charo Remix)
Ne-Yo’s So Sick was massive, when I found the acapella I wanted to make it a bit less poppy and a bit more haunting because I love the MJ-style harmonies he drops on his tracks. I added some of my own vox on the chorus too:
Ne-Yo - So Sick (Charo Remix)
First mp3!!
Here’s a dark old-school Snoop-ish beat for y’all, enjoy!
